I just found out that a friend of mine, Blase Gaude, passed away last year. I swam with Blase 
while we where in the Philippines with the Clark AFB Flying Dolphins. Blase's mom coached the team and he was the best swimmer in my age group. He played almost any sport there was but at 17 he was paralyzed from the neck down from a football injury. He died at 44 years old and from what I can tell he never gave up on anything while he was alive. While I didn't keep up with Blase after we moved, when I think about my time swimming he is always in my memory. Blase will be missed by everybody that knew him.
